25,000 Pounds of Food Collected at Molloy Bros.'s
Stuff the Mayflower Food Drive for Island Harvest

OLD BETHPAGE, N.Y. – Molloy Bros. Moving & Storage, an agent for Mayflower Transit, recently sponsored the Stuff the Mayflower Food Drive in association with the Long Island Radio Group and Waldbaum’s Grocery Store. More than 12 tons of food were collected during the unique two-day food drive benefiting Island Harvest and supporting its “Turkey and Trimmings Collection” campaign. The Stuff the Mayflower Food Drive was a resounding success with local businesses and residents contributing to collect 25,486 pounds of food including 1,560 turkeys donated by Agape World, Inc.

Dozen of volunteers from Island Harvest and members of the Molloy Bros. staff were on hand during the two-day food drive to collect and sort food, organize it onto pallets and load them onto the truck. At the end of the drive the collection totaled 21 pallets, which almost completely filled the Mayflower tractor-trailer donated by Molloy Bros. The food will be distributed to Island Harvest’s network of member agencies throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Island Harvest supports emergency food programs across Long Island and has delivered 43 million pounds of food, supplementing more than 33.5 million meals, since its inception in 1992.

Molloy Bros. Moving & Storage has a long history of community involvement and is proud to regularly donate warehouse space, furniture, trucks and time to Long Island charities and not-for-profit organizations.

“We are very pleased that so many people and companies helped to support the first Stuff the Mayflower Food Drive,” said Jim Molloy, President of Molloy Bros. Moving & Storage. “Island Harvest assists many people every day, and we were happy to provide the truck and support this collection. The collection of 21 pallets, more than 25,000 pounds of food, is significant. While substantial, this is only a small portion of the food that Island Harvest will need this holiday season. We encourage our fellow Long Islanders to support the organization with food and monetary donations.”
