Denver, Colorado – Here’s the dilemma: Hundreds of Girl Scouts from the Mile Hi Council wanted to get more than 10,000 boxes of their famous Girl Scout Cookies to soldiers serving overseas. Not surprisingly, this undertaking is a complicated logistical challenge. That’s where Buehler Moving & Storage, a Denver-based Mayflower Transit, agent joined the action.
On Saturday, March 17, Buehler opened its warehouse for “Operation Cookie Drop.” Homefront Heroes, a non-profit military support group, and Girl Scouts – Mile Hi Council organized the operation. The effort involved Girl Scout troops across the Denver area bringing their boxes of cookie donations to Buehler, where the cookies will be stored while Homefront Heroes volunteers prepare them in packages for shipment overseas.
Operation Cookie Drop included a Flag Ceremony at Buehler’s location, conducted by area Girl Scouts. The girls donned vintage Girl Scout uniforms in honor of the organization’s 95th Anniversary and Girl Scout Week March 11 to 17. Then, Colorado Secretary of State Mike Coffman, a U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran who served in Operation Desert Storm in 1990 and again in Iraq in 2005, addressed the attendees to honor the efforts of the Girl Scouts and Homefront Heroes.
"As a combat veteran, I know first hand how important it is to the Marines and soldiers in harms way to know that they have the support of Americans back home,” said Coffman. “Operation Cookie Drop will lift the spirits of our brave men and women in uniform, and it is an honor to be a part of this effort.”
Karyn Henry, director of corporate sales for Buehler Moving & Storage, said the company is very excited to be involved in Operation Cookie Drop. “We heard that the Girl Scouts and Homefront Heroes had done this in the past, but that the effort always faced the challenge of finding adequate storage space for the receipt and processing of the cookies for mailing,” she said. “We are proud of the area Girl Scouts’ effort to support our troops and want to help any way we can.”
Linda Olson, regional director of Homefront Heroes, said she was enthused about this labor intensive operation this year because of the dozens of heart-warming e-mails from soldiers inquiring about the cookies and telling her how much they appreciated them in the past. “Sometimes we get a gift of support that is so huge that words can’t explain it . . . this gift of storage from Buehler is that kind of gift.”

About Girl Scouts – Mile Hi Council
Making the world a better place is central to the Girl Scout mission. So during the cookie activity, Girl Scouts continued to honor the non-profit organizations, armed forces and uniformed personnel who are so important to our community through Mile Hi Council's Gift of Caring Program. Through this program, customers had the opportunity to purchase a box of cookies to donate to Girl Scouts' selected heroes - a perfect solution for those who pass on the tempting treats! All Gift of Caring purchases are tax deductible and benefit both the troop and the heroes. Last year's program netted more than 60,000 boxes for more than 500 different community organizations. Girl Scouts - Mile Hi Council is where girls in Denver and 13 surrounding counties gain courage, confidence and character alongside a group of girls who will be their friends for life. It's a safe place for girls to explore their world, develop an understanding and empathy for others, and take action to make the world a better place. Girls are guided by committed, caring adults who make learning fun. No other activity helps each girl achieve her personal leadership pathway like Girl Scouting. Girl Scouts has been the nation's leading expert on girls for nearly 100 years.
