DENVER – How many people know what it takes to pull off Election Day? Only a few – and Buehler Moving & Storage, an agent for Mayflower Transit, is part of that fortunate few. In the early 1970s, Buehler was called in to handle Election Day logistics. In those days, the mechanical voting machines, sometimes called “iron horses,” weighed approximately 900 pounds. As technology has improved, the machines weigh less but the logistics remain just as complex.

While the sizes and weights have changed over the past 20 years, Buehler has delivered more than 1,100 machines to approximately 400 precinct locations in the city of Denver and Denver County. Buehler’s experience and reliable service have fostered opportunities to expand its involvement with neighboring counties. Buehler partnered with Adams County in 2005 to handle election logistics and partnered with Arapahoe County for the November elections this year.
While each county has different logistical needs, Buehler was able to successfully accommodate each county’s requirements. The company dedicated 24 crews on the day before and the day after the election, in addition to managing the daily operational needs of the other business units.

“The entire process is amazing to watch, from start to finish. Most people don’t realize the time and consideration that goes into pulling off an election,” explained Joe Baird, a long-standing Buehler Moving & Storage employee responsible for managing the logistics process for the elections. “The entire Buehler family has to work together with each of the counties to pull this off. We commit 23 two-man crews before the election and 24 two-man crews after the election to make sure everything runs smoothly. And we couldn’t do it without the outpouring of support from Denver County, Arapahoe County and Adams County.”
