St. Louis- (January 12, 2012) – Mayflower announced that it will match donations made to a St. Louis grass roots group to help welcome troops home from Iraq with a parade. The group, which started with the Facebook page “Make January 28th Welcome Home the Heroes from Iraq Day,” needs to raise $25,000 by Friday, Jan. 13 to get the partnership and financial backing of a major veteran’s charity for their event. Mayflower agreed to match donations dollar for dollar up to $7,500.
“We have a long history of serving military members and their families, and we have witnessed the courageous sacrifices that these men and women make,” said Mayflower communications manager Melissa Sullivan. “Mayflower is privileged to honor their service in this small way, and we are confident that others in the community will do the same.”
Donations from Mayflower and other corporate sponsors have left the group only $4,500 short of their $25,000 goal as of Thursday, Jan. 12. Those who would like to contribute can pledge their support in the following ways:
If the group is successful, it will host a parade Saturday, January 28 on Market Street in St. Louis.
