Economy in Seattle

With companies such as Microsoft and Amazon calling the Seattle area home, along with Google’s ever-increasing presence, it’s easy to see why the tech industry is fueling Seattle’s economic engine, which also benefits locally from the University of Washington. Although Boeing has reduced staffing in recent years, it still is the state’s largest private employer, with more than 70,000 employees. The military also has a significant presence in the Seattle area with Joint Base Lewis-McChord, just south of Tacoma, and the Navy Region Northwest. And, with one of its shops seemingly on every corner in the U.S, Seattle-based Starbucks injects a certain buzz into the local economy.
