Is Mayflower Transit licensed and bonded?

Mayflower's license information is available through the US Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration at www.safersys.org. Mayflower Transit, LLC is licensed under U.S. DOT No. 125563

Can I put personal items in the vehicle?

Personal items are not allowed inside the vehicle during transport. Personal items are not inventoried and are not the responsibility of the carrier.  Your Mayflower carrier is obligated to inspect the inside of your vehicle at the point of origin and is authorized to remove any belongings. When personal belongings are left inside a vehicle, the risk or damage, theft, loss or removal by roadside authorities increases. 

How long will it take to ship my car?

Your delivery date is usually determined by distance. On average, Mayflower can deliver most domestic auto shipments in 8 to 10 business days.  The delivery spread for your auto transport move will be clearly listed on your bill of lading.

Can Mayflower ship high-value, luxury or antique vehicles?

 Yes, Mayflower can accommodate many specialty shipping needs. To ensure that your vehicle’s special needs are considered, ask your shipping coordinator about the options available for protecting your high-value shipments.

Let your shipping coordinator know if your vehicle falls into one of the following categories:

  • Over 25 years old
  • Modified with a lift kit, dually wheels, cab lights, camper shells or oversize tires
  • Modified to over 75 inches in height or 220 inches in length
  • Weighing more than 5,000 pounds
  • Inoperable vehicles.
  • Exceeds $60,000 in book value
What if I am not available on the delivery date?

We strongly recommend that you be there to accept your vehicle. If that is not possible you may have a trusted representative accept delivery. Please be aware that an inspection is performed and a contract bill of landing must be signed. Even though we don’t anticipate any damages to your vehicle, it is important for you to thoroughly inspect it and the bill of lading at both pickup and delivery.

Can you guarantee a pickup and delivery date?

Yes, your Mayflower shipping coordinator will help you set a firm deliver-by date and will work to accommodate your shipping schedule in every way possible. In the unlikely event of a delay beyond the late delivery date, your shipping coordinator will provide advanced notice and arrange for a rental vehicle.

How much gas that should I leave in the tank before shipping?

It is requested that your car be filled one-quarter to one-half tank full, and no more. If the auto has more than half a tank of gas, this adds unnecessary weight to an auto carrier and may, in some cases, prevent loading if there are weight concerns.

What if my vehicle does not run?

Special equipment is required for automobiles that do not run. To ensure your transporter is prepared with the right car carrier and winches, let your shipping coordinator know the running condition of your car before booking auto transport.

Inoperable vehicles without an engine, brakes, wheels or steering are not eligible for standard car carrier service, but can be shipped via flatbed through Mayflower's Logistics division.

Can I ship a car with only valet keys?

No, keys provided to the car carrier operator must be fully-functional and allow the driver total access to all vehicle compartments.

What is the difference between open-sided and enclosed transport?

Open-sided auto transport is the preferred mode of transport for many car shippers. These carriers provide a significant cost savings to both the carrier and customer.

Enclosed transport is assigned for high-value shipments to protect the vehicle from dust, debris and weather. Enclosed transport is a good choice if you desire additional protection for a luxury or antique car.
